Meet My New Bookshelf

A little while back I decided I needed a small bookshelf for my room. I needed more storage as well as a little more space to decorate and a bookshelf seemed like the perfect addition. All the furniture in my bedroom is a light shade of brown so when I ordered my new bookshelf it was brown too. It's a medium-ish sort of size with three sections for lots and lots of decorative/storage options. Of course when the shelf arrived in the mail I fell in love with it. It was the perfect size and a brilliant match with the rest of my room. But of course, just like everything else in my room, this shelf had to be pretty-fied too!

Isn't it perfect? The light shade of brown is two toned so it looks super classy and stylish. The look also matches my room's furniture so nicely that you won't even believe they aren't from the same furniture line. Fabulosity! By the way, I think the shelf is slightly lighter in shade than the camera made it to be. Anyhoo. Once I had fallen in love and chosen a place for the shelf in my beautiful bedroom it was time for a little DIY!

I got my scissors out, my measuring scale, and my pencil and put on my DIY face. Yes, I have a DIY face! I had decided my new book shelf needed a background. I wanted the background to be shiny and girly yet stay stylish and sophisticated. So I chose this decorative wrapping paper that had gold and silver stripes. It had just the right kind of glitter and was the ideal kind of shiny I had wanted.

A couple minutes later I stepped back and admired my DIY work. Lovelyyyyyyyy!
The background adds a mirror-like effect to the shelf. The gold and silver stripes actually reflect light from my already super bright room making the shelf appear bigger and brighter. The brown appearance of the shelf has been reduced and that is exactly what I was looking for. Now, once the shelf is decorated and populated from top to bottom, it looks much more colorful and girly than it would have without that shine in the background. I love it and I can't wait to post more pictures of what I've done with the shelf!
