All About Sara's Baked Creations

Imagine holding that cupcake in your hand. Imagine its sweet smell reaching your nose; the sweet scent of cookies and chocolatey goodness playing with your senses. Imagine taking a bite, sinking your teeth into this deliciousness, letting the taste spread inside your mouth. Imagine that happy feeling ...

That's exactly what Sara's Baked Creations is all about. It's about being happy. About feeling happy. Mission Sweetness is all about spreading happiness and smiles.
The obsession began as an innocent little interest five years ago in January. Little had I known then how much the love of baking would consume me. Watching 'Cake Boss' on TLC was an afternoon time pass at first, before it became an inspiration, a motivation, a passion, and finally the love of my life. I love baking! For it makes me happy, it is my stress reliever, my high, and my favorite hobby. Sara's Baked Creations is all that I do. But what do I do? Let me exactly show and tell just that ...

Five years back I'd started off with cupcakes and since then I've successfully completed a hundred and five 'missions' - a term that Abbie and I came up with together for Sara's Baked Creations. I bake anything and everything I like. I want to know it all, do it all, achieve it all! I've baked cupcakes, muffins, brownies, pastries, breads, cakes, donuts, you name it ...

The part I enjoy the most though is cake decorating. Each and every one of my cakes is pre-planned based on the occasion I'm baking for. Each cake has a uniqueness that adds to its beauty. Some of the cakes I've made so far were simple while others (like the one in the picture above) involved detailed work like sculpting and shaping too. I like to believe that my cakes are pieces of art, and trust me (you will when you see all the pictures!) they are masterpieces.

I'm particularly proud of my attention to detail. I like to place the tiniest of details by hand, one by one, no matter how many hours it takes me to complete a cake. Speaking of which, some of my cakes have taken me as long as three days to complete from baking to finishing the decorations. I'm a from-scratch baker, which means I avoid cake mixes and instead measure and add my own ingredients. Therefore each one of my cakes is made with immense love and I give it my time, thought, and full effort.

I always go into baking and cake decorating with abandon. Hours pass away without me noticing it and by the time I'm fully satisfied with my work and step back to take a final glance at my masterpiece the day has changed into night and suddenly I can feel every muscle of my body being tired. It is an addiction, really! But that's not all that makes Sara's Baked Creations so awesome. Something, somebody, plays a very vital role ...

Doesn't THAT make you want to reach out with a finger to catch that dripping chocolate glaze? Even better, doesn't it make you want to grab that Chocolate Overload Cake and just somehow have it in your mouth? Please excuse me because I'm drooling right now!

That picture (and the one above, and many others of the making of my creations!) was taken by the one and only Abbie who plays a VERY special part in Sara's Baked Creations. My sister is the reason I started baking in the first place because watching Buddy Valastro do his magic on TV wasn't enough, a push was needed to get me started. She was the one who told me I wouldn't be able to do anything if I never tried. She was the one who bought me my first cupcakes pan, my first hand held mixer, and my first ingredients for my first baking of my life. Even today she gives me creative advice when I'm having a baker's block. She's also my taste tester, adviser, supporter! She helps out with literally everything and even today, five years and a hundred and five missions later, I wouldn't be able to do nothing if it weren't for her encouragement and support!

When the hard work is done it is time to taste what I've created. Be it a cake decorated for hours or days, be it a single cupcake frosted in the simplest of ways, or a classic cookie my aim is to present deliciousness on a plate. I've tried and am trying new flavors with each baking. My cakes don't only need to be beautiful and eye catching but also the perfect texture, the perfect taste, the perfect everything. When the perfection is achieved (and it has been a hundred and five times so far) I find my peace ...

I focus on the insides of my cakes as well. The cake needs to be just as pretty from the insides when it is cut as it is from the outside when I'm done decorating. My cakes have beautiful insides whether they are the classic two layered cakes with a delicious filling in the middle or something as special as the rainbow cake above.

At the end of the day (or days ... when it takes more than a day to finish making a cake) when the taste comes out perfect and I witness somebody placing a bite of my baking in their mouth and closing their eyes to enjoy the heavenly taste, I know I've done it. It is that kick, that peace, that happiness that keeps the obsession within me alive!

The feeling of baking for somebody's special day is fabulous. It's like giving the best gift, spreading happiness, achieving the goal of Mission Sweetness!

  6. I love cake decorating although I'm not nearly as talented as you. I tend to have mixed results with some things looking pretty good and some not so much. It doesn't stop me from trying. I have done many home made birthday cakes for my girls. There is great satisfaction in having it all come together. Your cakes look amazing and your sister's food photography is beautiful.

    1. Aww Karen! Thank you so much for such a wonderful comment!
When I started off five years ago I didn't always end up with perfection. Initially, I could point out flaws in my cake decorating skills too. Never stop trying! I always kept going and look how awesome it turned out for me.
Best of luck and thanks for stopping by! :)

  10. I try to bake cakes and think about decorating them. Lucky if I can get the frosting on without wrecking it. Your decorations are great.
